If you feel that you want to burn something on your own, you must first follow the rules of the jurisdiction you are in. All municipalities in the Milltown Fire District require burning permits. Contact your local Township Chairperson for permits. Along with getting a permit, please notify the Polk County Sheriffs Department, BEFORE you start burning, of the address closest to the area that you will be burning, what you are burning, length of time you will be burning, and a phone number they may contact you at if they should have any questions. The sheriffs department may be contacted at (715) 485-8300. Illegal burning, or burning without a permit may incur a charge for equipment, manpower, fuel, and other charges. Also, negligent burning with a permit may incur charges. Many different municipalities have different regulations on when it is okay to burn without a burning permit. Some municipaities allow burning without a permit from snowfall to snowfall. In order to be sure, contact your local chairperson or person that issues burning permits just to be sure.
